Ghiz, wolf in sheep’s clothing
Kate MacDonald wrote an informed and readable opinion on the wind energy issue Where the Island Wind is Blowing. Her focus was on carbon credits.
We ask: why are we shipping 300 MW or 85% of the energy off-Island. We need that energy on PEI by anyone’s estimation.
For decades we wanted to own our energy and dreamed of being energy self-sufficient. Ontario keeps energy for its people first and sells the excess. So does Quebec. Ghiz is not a loyal Islander: his loyalties lie elsewhere.
Our new Liberal premier is giving away the farm and for what? Will we get paid? Not likely. Ghiz’s plan is about as dumb as allowing new construction in Charlottetown without parking. The consequences of parking congestion are annoying. Ghiz’s plan will impoverish us forever.
Yes we know the City makes developers pay a fee to waive the parking requirement. That money gets lost in general revenues. Now it’s worse than ever to find parking in downtown Charlottetown with all those new office workers.
Citizens know what that means – more parking tickets and even more revenue for the City. Short term thinking persists at the City and the Premier’s Office.
It’s dawning on us that Robert Ghiz is not a Liberal. He’s a re-tread Mike Harris Tory from Ontario. Social conservatism, de-regulation, P3’s, selling out to foreign buyers – these are the hallmarks of the neo-cons who ruled Ontario for too long.
We didn’t elect a Liberal: we elected a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
We’re small “l” and big “L” Liberals. We believe in Liberal social values, in national ownership or control of natural resources. His father Joe Ghiz was a Liberal. Joe Ghiz resisted the fixed link because he thought it would hurt PEI. If he had been a phony like his son, Islanders wouldn’t have lifted a finger for him.
Catherine Callbeck was a Liberal who believed in PEI. She held Maritime Electric’s hand to the stove giving us the lowest electric rates or else. Maritime Electric blinked first since Callbeck threatened to create a public utility owned by Islanders.
We are actually at the point with low interest rates, a depressed stock market and wind power to just buy Maritime Electric and get rid of the come-from-away owners. We have the employees who know how to run the thing. Only that doesn’t play to Ghiz’s plan to sell off the Island.
Ghiz didn’t campaign on any of these draconian policies. He campaigned on change, better government, and respect for Islanders with disabilities among other things. Gone would be the corruption of a Polar Seafoods. Honest government was the new way, Ghiz the candidate told us.
Wow when will that start? All we’ve seen is ineptitude and corruption on a grand scale.
Worse than that, Robert Ghiz is an opportunist and time will tell if he is a fraudulent con artist pulling off PEI’s biggest fraud. Ghiz just wants wealth and power for himself and his buddies.
“To hell with the people of PEI” Ghiz says. He realizes he won’t get elected next term and is going to rape PEI before he gets kicked out of office. “Let’s sell her off boys to the highest bidder.”
We are all true Islanders looking out for each other and our Island home. Ghiz and his bunch of cronies may have been born here but they are not loyal. The are carpetbaggers exploiting PEI for their own profit.
We’re at a loss as to what the people of PEI can do about it other than continue to expose the Ghiz fraud.
