Ghiz at the tipping point
By Stephen Pate
NJN News
Public confidence in Premier Robert Ghiz is so low he may have reached the tipping point in his ability to govern. November 2008 may mark the beginning of the end of his government.
In the Canadian parliamentary system, non-confidence in government is technically a vote in a non-confidence motion – usually monetary. However, governments can become so unworthy of trust in the public mind that they’ve lost the right to govern.
Until the next election they flap around like a cod fish on the dock in Murray Harbour North, just some mild slapping sounds with death a certainty.
That’s pretty bold but I believe we’re at that point.
Wes Sheridan to bankrupt PEI
By Stephen Pate
The announced capital budget of Wes Sheridan and the Liberal government has to be one of the more ill-timed patronage boondoggles of PEI history. With an operating deficit of $150 million and debt of $1.3 billion, PEI cannot afford to borrow at the beginning of the worst recession since 1929.
For the love of God Wes, banks are failing all over the world and Iceland has gone bankrupt. Get a grip on reality man.
While Sheridan reports $50 million in operating deficit, if you take away the one-time cash flow from the Immigrant Scam it’s really more like $150 million. Mark my words.
