Coalition good for Canada

without comments

I received an email from an old friend today asking for my support for Stephen Harper. Other than my mother and sister, she is the oldest friend I have on the planet. We went to Grade I together and I would do anything to help her.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper, an undemocratic demagogue and a hypocrite to boot

Prime Minister Stephen Harper, an undemocratic demagogue and a hypocrite to boot

I would like to support the petition since Marilyn is my friend; however, I believe the coalition has more right to govern than Harper.

First, Harper is a demagogue who used a minority win to demonstrate his willingness to crush his democratic enemies.

Second, coalition government’s have always been good in Canada. Tommy Douglas, the father of the NDP, was instrumental in establishing many of our revered social programs during Liberal minority or near minority governments.

Third, the coalition is using techniques Harper himself tried without success on Paul Martin’s government. Pot calling the kettle black.

Canada’s social agenda has been stalled since Paul Martin became Minister of Finance in the 1990’s. Martin was actually a closet conservative. We were enchanted to vote for the Liberals since Chretien was a likely, everyday guy and the deficit needed taming.

Martin cut back all major social programs and it’s been downhill for the common people ever since.

If a coalition comes to power, we can expect improvements in social programs with NDP influence.

For the past 15 years, Canada has been for the rich, the multi-nationals and the connected. It would be time to balance that with a look at what average people need.

Since the rich have money :) we can expect to see lots of press denouncing the coalition.

Woody Guthrie wrote “This Land was made for you and me.” Wouldn’t it be nice if that happened.

With respect for all points of view,

A worried Robert Ghiz closes the Legislature early, how long can he last ? (Guardian photo by Brian MacInnis

The Robert Ghiz Liberal government of PEI, facing enormous pressure from the Opposition and the public, have closed the fall session of the Legislature.

We said at the start of the week Ghiz was at the tipping point. Today he admitted as much.

The Liberal’s hold on power ebbs away each day that more of the facts of the Immigrant Scam are revealed.

Each statement by the inept cabinet reveals the government to be lacking in any skill other than corruption.

How long can this government last?

PROVINCE HOUSE

The fall session of the P.E.I. legislature came to a close late this afternoon, after a short 13 days in session.
Despite the short session, 28 bills were passed.
Premier Robert Ghiz says the session’s highlights included major reforms in health care, the promise to expand high speed internet to all of province, and reforms to the Police Act.
“I think it says we have a very efficient and good government,” Ghiz said moments ago.
“I sat in opposition and really it depends on how long the opposition asks questions for, and if they want to hold up the business of government.”

… more to come, full details in The Guardian tomorrow.

Ghiz is Mr. Popular

The decision to take a 2.5% increase has the crowd yelling “The Emperor has no clothes!”

Of 44 comments on the Guardian story, only 5 are neutral or support Ghiz’s pay raise.

I’d say Premier Robert Ghiz would have trouble getting elected dog catcher these days.

The people see Ghiz as corrupt, overpaid and incompetent. Voice of the people.
